Somali National Army (SNA)

Post  Admin on Sat Nov 27 2010, 08:46

The force was evenly distributed and had modern equipments during its time. It possessed a mixture of western and eastern blocs arsenal. Western armor like the American M47 Patton , M41 Walker Bulldog and the British Centurion. The outbreak of the Somali Civil War led to the de facto dissolution of the one time largest army in Africa. The equipments was cannibalized and sold as spares or scrap to its neighbors while some fell into the hands of insurgents like UNITED SOMALI CONGRESS (USC).

The military of Somalia is now overseen by the TFG Ministry of Defense, a branch of Somalia's new Transitional Federal Government (TFG)

You have to live optimistically. its possible for them to cross over or join the Al Qaeda Brigade but At the moment our obligation is to help a neighbor in need.

Kenya doesn’t feature in countries that operate the M-16. they might have be brought in or leased for that special event.

Not all that is listed in Wikipedia is necessarily exhaustive. For instance Uganda is known to posses some BM21 MRLs yet none is shown in Wikipedia's list. Similarly Kenya's sidewinder air to air missiles are not captured there either. You need to look at other authoritative sources ( such as Janes defense weekly) as well. If you need links on these then i' am more than willing to provide.
Sometimes the information that is posted in Wikipedia is not exactly reliable especially given that anybody can edit that site.

My apology. My source tells me that this rifle is not a M16 but a Squad Assalt Rifle called the AR-15 version A4. the AR-15A4 is one of the latest assault rifles that is being used by Nato and US Military. It’s a direct competitor of the M-16

Mr crane we have the rifle in our arsenal as shown by the above picture. The soldier is from the General Service Unit personal. A Kenyan. We don,t need a Website to back that information.

To add on what has be said above The M4A1 is the M-16 rifle that competes with the AR-15A4. the M4A1 is made by Colt Defense a rifle competitor of ArmaLite the manufactures of AR-15 rifles

The M4A1 is the primary weapon used by SEAL operators. A shorter, more compact version of the M16A2 rifle it is equivalent to the AR-15A4. they have been many debates on which rifle is superior

http://forum.pafoa.org/rifles-42/10133-ar15-vs-m4-whats-difference.html

my personal opinion is that both have the same abilities but come from different manufactures,

From top to bottom: M16A1, M16A2, M4A1, M16A4

@ Mr Crane,

Read my post again and tell me whether there is a personal attack against you. I was merely clarifying that not all that is posted in Wikipedia is exhaustive and i went a head to give examples. Nowhere in that post did i say that Uganda didn't have the weapon in question. You do not expect people not to respond to some of the posts you make just like we respond to those of everyone else me included. Similarly it will be sad if people chose to ignore what you contribute for you will be a lone ranger. So friend tell me if i should refrain from your content. I will do so gladly. One thing though, i have nothing against Uganda, go thro all my posts and point out anything untrue.

AR15/GSU

Post  ole Nkar on Tue Mar 15 2011, 02:57

The AR15 is now standard issue for the Ruiru GSU Chaps, but also available to the other GSU Coys for FBU-related tasking. Much more suited than the noisy and unsteady cluttering AK47 previously issued to the GSU and the ungainly but very effective G3 field. Some chaps in our Delta and RSF also prefer the it - I don't particularly. But this is nothing to get the graceful Crane-bird so hot under his collar, just a functional soldier's tool really.

KILOALFA didn't per se. The GSU did. With coupla MD500s for tactical and comms, spotters and a wet-work Delta Unit, KA mortar crews at rear. A high-value Al-shabaab-command opportunistic target in the vicinity, GSU action was diversionary. Jubbaland is likely to break at anytime, from all indications.

Kenya M4A1

Post  PW on Wed Apr 20 2011, 10:39

Kenya probably acquired 2008 or 2009 6964 M4A1 from the USA under the FMS programme.
see: p.11
Does that seem to be a reasonable number?

I chanced upon pics of Fazul's Landcruiser. Those som soldiers have been well trained. the concentration of fire and distance between bullet holes shows a remarkable level of accuracy for such an Army. Whoever trained them did a splendid job.

Who said the TFG shot Fazul? The Scene itself speaks. SpecOps - and not Somalia's.

Well Col, that sight was too glaring for one not to notice. look at the pics. This guys were proffesionals. Concentration of fire on the driver and passenger side of the SUV with the "between" area untouched. They then managed center mass shots which killed him. To achieve that on a moving target! that's so un-checkpoint soldier like. to make matters worse, a young somali soldier interviewed by the AP said he loosed 30rounds into the SUV(full mag) after F.A.M went for his pistol. now i'm no expert but i know some things. the somalis most probably use TYPE 56 chinese a.k's. The said somali soldier interviewed by AP(saw his pic) is just a local militia kitted with TFG uniform. seriously that guy couldn't have been trained in Manyani or Bihanga. Now for that guy to achieve that level of accuracy he has to have tom berrenger sniper genes flowing in his D.N[img][img]

Jasiri, you are spot on. Nothing to do with TFG. This was a take-down, plain and simple, with the usual preps in men, intel, comms, etc. The man was tracked for weeks and his trajectory and interception easily anticipated - Fazul was suckered in by the ease he moved in and out of Kenya, he got careless. Sort of like how we used to thread maize to a long string to fish out the neighbor's cockerel without a sound, when we were boys!!

By the way, the shooting though pretty good - my clusters are neater and so is that of a great many other chaps i Know!! Not bragging, mind you!
