Opinions guys what did you think? Just between us its not an official decree. Should we or should we not.

@ risasi, i find it illogical to negotiate with AS for there is no gain.. it would actually anger the somali's supporting kenya in the offensive,, i think its best left to be the way it is..

@ balozi most of the attack clips consist of numbers on a screen followed by explosions. i doubt that you will comprehend them .

These Iranians are full of sh*t! Notice how many drones they claim to have crashed in Somalia? According to their past articles, I count almost 10! How come this was not the case in Afghanistan and Iraq? If A.S had killed that many Kenyans or confiscated any equipment, they definitely would have paraded bodies, equipment etc as a morale booster to their ranks. They have done this in the past, why not now? On another note, the recent Alfred Mutua like statements from Maj. Chirchir do not inspire any confidence. He's letting the door wide open for A.S to win the propaganda war..

This press Tv is is so full of it and if u remember major Churchill already warned about lose propagada and verbal diarrhoea from these Iranians. We already have other media on the ground sending clips of the situation yet none of them are reporting this bull. That the french and the Americans are fighting and that kenyan soldiers have been killed is nonsense.Just like Alfred said A.s has no time to capture anybody they are busy running.Ignore these idlers at all cost.

As per the situation of propaganda from Presstv. From Alfred and Co the more we dwell on his propaganda the more publicity we give him and his website. If we turn a blind eye he becomes a Dog barking in at the dark. we have the Iranians email, facebook ID and location. If any one is interested we will hand over those info. We can,t contact him as a nation as this will boost his ego.

I think this is 'NUTS!' how can two drones simultaneously crash without any explanation but only quotes from the press tv is that explosions were heard or seen, a French chopper crashes still with no explanation(is their some sort of Electro-Magnetic Field there Shocked) and 30 Kenyan troops killed all in 2 days/1 night. A.S must be operating a commando unit of some sort. lol!

It would take a fool to believe in all this crap and just as Al Bashir had put it, "this guys love to parade their achievements to win support and build morale," which is not happening. This is a big degrade to the Iranian press TV, i would recommend they get their sources right or just close shop.

Its very unlikely that A.S. can keep a truce. While I don't know the level of intel being employed it is true that these brutes can turn against you any time. The only language they understand is war. Even if they surrender I suggest they shld be kept in isolation for sometime, or be demobed otherwise all will seem to be ok then RPGs start popping out of civilian gatherings also roadside bombs. Have their leads been tested and found to be authentic? caution advised

I find the real solution to these groups difficult. I see it as a long struggle.
I would not go for demobilisation as the likely poor civilian life will push them back to some form of armed group, where they wil have power. I would not isolate them either. I would think you "turn them", into units that have a well controlled propotion of ex-AS fighters. You place good guys among them for intel. You then use a lot of these unit for your regular fighting.

Time for a quick look-see what you chaps have been up to.

The debate about why we withheld the killer punch and have done with these goons is simple – easiest way to end up branded an invading occupying force. We could quite well have ran right up to Mogadishu in a couple of days from ‘’jump-off’’, burned the brigands out of it in another couple of days, chased them right out of Somalia in another couple of weeks of full-tilt engagement - that should not be in doubt even to the Flying Cranes of this East African World. Hell, at the crazy kill-rate the Deltas, Rangers, Air Calv, ARTY Units and KAF have been calling-in on these faceless mobsters, that should now not be too difficult - even for the UPDF to break out of Mogadishu and make a quick run for Baidoa, which is being proposed to them by Shariff. AS is not ‘’regrouping’’, ‘’rearming’’, ‘’re-strategizing’’, ‘’re-doing anything’’ - damn whatever the Caucasian Press is parroting, sounding like AlQueda Apologists daily!! Al-Shabaab has imploded on itself, right before the unbelieving, fascinated eyes of Somali people. Tis just simply boring in-theatre -very little for a hard-working chap to do in-theatre, I tell you. Hunting License depleted!

Getting the Somali People behind KDF requires some deft indoctrination on the attractive alternatives and possibilities without AS. It requires a psychological crushing of the Alshabaab ‘’invisibility’’ cloak in the Somali National Psyche – I reckon we are pretty well along this road already. Eventually, a progressive building up of a critical mass of political will to break away from the AS. Then, the KDF fight becomes a Somalian fight, and success acquires Somali-ownership. It is called Clever Modern War - a little like in Libya, and what Ethiopia should have done . I tell you fellas, AS is history as a smelly footnote. Open hostilities resume with regular units engaging, anytime now, and that Cold Tusker Malt Jas promised weighs heavily in my head!!

Know why KDF stopped kill-rate briefing after the very first one by Commander-central sector during first week of Jump-Off? Any guess, anyone? Shouldn't be too hard to guess, even for Flying Crane, I reckon. There are daily accurate Kill-rate records, with all Units deployed - doesn't paint a State-of-War, by any stretch of one's imagination, I tell you!! Tis simply surreal stuff!

@tempest – we are soldiers, man, not butchermen. A no-holds-barred engagement with AS will create a body count that will turn the stomach of any Soldier, and blur the distinguishing line between AS and KDF.

The AS has no functional martial ability against any well prepped opponent. Often AS is the only Employer is most regions, the ‘’jihadists’’ are mostly just kids working 7-5 kinda, with little reason to die, and even less to fight for the AS. Beyond field-stripping an Assault rifle, they lack all other understanding of an infantry war. No command structure, martial organization at all. Forget the promo / propaganda shots swamping the internet. It is why their methods are so brutally animalistic, so savagely irrational. They terrorize not just their population but also their rank-and-file with mindless violence, mostly perpetuated by the AS-foreign legion.

Now, into this mix, throw in 12 fully-armed MD500 with a stick of four bad-men Deltas on both skids of each, and with others bad-guys HALO-in to any sector where these kids are bunkered, each MD500’s 20MikeMike in full dance mode, rocket pods ablaze, and what do you expect? Sickening!! Now even the whoop-whoop of any rotary wing sends these kids scurrying into their rat-holes, or hiding behind their civilian populations, melting away without trace. Nothing moves unless… Not even miraa!! Now, those kids that were drummed and bussed to Afmadow and Kismayo? - doubtful that a full engagement will ever results when we eventually hit these towns.

Best way to conclude a foreign incursion into such a nationalist country as Somalia without creating unnecessary martyrs is to put such a forceful display of might and violence very quickly, slacken off for a while as to allow dissenting elements to simply fade away. And for the most part, they have or are about to.

We could be stirring up a hornets nest. Somalis are clan-centric by nature. We run the risk of igniting inter clan wars in the newly liberated areas as clans wrestle for the meager resources available. This could also be a parallel explanation as to why KDF has yet take on Afmadow and Kismayo weeks after we were told that KDF is right at the doorsteps. I take the "heavy rains" explanation with a grain of salt. The question becomes who takes charge of these cities once we liberate them from A.S? KDF has explicitly stated on numerous occasions that we will not occupy any Somali territory. There's clear evidence that clans are re-arming and re-aligning. For the time being they are siding with the TFG and KDF but this is Somalia, alliances change overnight. The most prominent KDF backer in Jubaland at the moment (General Madobe) is a ruthless warlord and founding member of the ICU and AS. he now runs the Ras Kamboni brigade and may be positioning himself to overrun the TFG forces out of Kismayo once A.S has been routed and KDF withdraws. His goons are reportedly already manning roadblocks in Dhobley and is already at loggerheads with the Kenyan backed Jubaland/Azania president. We can only wait and see how this one plays out. Subs for the kenya navy would be a terrible idea. A white elephant ready to hemorrhage public funds from the get go. The cost burden far outweighs any potential advantages of such an acquisition. What role will a sub fill in our current and near term security needs? Zilch! Zero! unless we are gearing up for a military showdown with Egypt and Sudan over the Nile waters this equipment will be of no strategic value other than bragging rights. Even if this were the case the $600,000-$1.5M price tag per cruise missle or LRBM puts subs totally out of our league. Such a sum would be put to better use if we were to acquire better/modern air assets...... Just my 2 cents

They have no credentials and professionalism. I guess the reason for all of this is the mau mau issue and they have grudges with Obako for turning to China for project completion of massive infrastructure upgrades in Kenya especially TR highway

efrommers,
the link you provided has old news that have been disproved and trashed. The A.s will say anything but like a bunch of rats they have disappeared to hell knows where. This particular incident is the one mentioned on the media briefing weeks ago.I dont blame BBC because they are not responsible for what al shabab says.I do however reckon that BBC is responsible for what they understand on whats said. That said,we have reporters on the ground from various organizations and news rooms so its not hard to verify whats reported out there. The a.s prides itself of being notorious and not afraid to die.Why haven't thrown themselves en mass on the path of k.d.f,a good short cut to hell where they belong?

Post  MWAURA on Tue Nov 15 2011, 19:45

Several comments;
Like ole Nkarei says, the KDF has obviously decided to chose the subtle path and not fight a full fledged no holds war. Kismayu ain't Stalingrad! The Iranians have disappointed me with such crude propaganda. I thought they knew where their long term interests lay. I know they've been secretly trying at a high level for the last few years to import all our tea-value added and thus hugely leverage the resulting influence by virtue of the exponential increase in tea farmers income-smth like twice the 860 mn$ earned last year. Caution ,which now seems wise on our side has kept this idea in abeyance.
A KDF officer is truly a lucky chap. Relatively you're the best paid, good equipment and training and you've been handed an ideal assignment. Not too much political interference and mission creep and the chance to test your training. What if you were Senegalese,Zambian or Brazilian officers? You'd live out a 35 year career without hearing live battle field fire! You should be grateful to Somalis for allowing you that luxury-seriously.
SS Jamuhuri, you're totally sold on the idea of a submarine. The KNS Jasiri episode illustrates the hydographic vessel was truly a precursor of such a purchase. But,not for the immediate future. A submarine requires a supporting marine complement of at least several frigates, not mere gunboats in our inventory.
Nkarei, please tell me those M4s are the new 6.8 mm version, developed after the subpar performance of the 5.56mm in Afghanistan. Also, why we couldn't just remain with the unbeatable accuracy and stopping power of the 7.62 nato?
This last question is a response to all the 'experts' and 'armchair analysts,' and is open to everyone. Everybody from the carjacker king to the Americans,Meles Zenawi,British,Iranians and even a little Zimbabwean girl called Tendai Marima have collectively scoffed at the KDF battle capability-WHY???
This is typical of their contempt:
Kenya's surprisingly brave march into southern Somalia, which began in
mid-October, brings to mind the analogy of Kenya as a clumsy, overgrown,
weak-muscled 17-year-old stumbling onto a rainy, muddy battlefield
for the very first time. Weighed down by his kalashnikov and ego, he
fiddles about to get his aim right, but his younger, more agile,
bloodthirsty opponent is already waiting with his weapon cocked and
ready to fire.
http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2011/11/201111181332359678.html
Already,in Kismayu, pirates are reducing their ransom demands.
Kenya’s operation against Al Shabaab in Somalia has helped reduce
ransom demands on captured ships as pirates seek to close deals before a
battle between the militants and Kenyan forces at Kismayo.
Shipping experts said that the amount of ransom demanded by pirates
for vessels had dropped by about 50 per cent and could fall further in
coming days once “Operation Linda Nchi” (Defend the Country) is
completed.

“Initially, the pirates holding captive the Algerian flagged MV BLIDA
were demanding $6 million to release the vessel and her multi-national
crew. But a package of $3.5 million was
